How to remove press-on nails: a step-by-step guide to damage-free removal

Removing your press-ons the right way is the most important step in keeping your natural nails healthy. Done correctly, press-on nails cause zero damage. However, if they’re ripped or peeled off before the adhesive has fully released, they can lift a layer of the natural nail.
To keep that from happening, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide to damage-free removal.
Step 1: Check how your press-ons were applied
How you remove your press-ons depends on how you put them on. Glaize Tips come with three adhesive options:
- Adhesive tabs
- Glue for short-term wear
- Glue for long-term wear
Each method has its own removal technique, so it’s important to start here before removing your set.
Step 2: Remove your press-ons
If you used adhesive tabs:
- Use your wooden cuticle stick to gently lift the sides of each nail
- Peel each Tip off slowly and carefully
- If you feel any resistance, stop. Don't force it. Soak your fingers in warm soapy water for 5–10 minutes, then try again
- Once removed, dab a little cuticle oil on your nails to lift any sticky residue

If you used glue:
- Fill a bowl with hot, soapy water
- Soak your fingers for 15–20 minutes
- Use your wooden stick to gently lift the edges of each nail
- If there's any resistance, stop and soak for a little longer
- Once the Tips lift easily, remove them and use your file to gently buff away any leftover glue residue

Step 3: Rehydrate your nails
- Apply cuticle oil to rehydrate the nail and surrounding skin
- Apply hand cream to lock in moisture
- Leave your nails bare for a day or two if you want to give them a breather before your next set
Taking a little extra time during removal is what keeps press-ons completely damage-free and your natural nails looking and feeling their best, so when you’re ready for your next set, all that’s left to do is choose your next manicure.
